It is of great significance to study pedestrian crossing characteristics because pedestrian traffic is a weak link of the urban transport system usually facing with the threat of motor vehicles, especially at an unsignalized intersection. In this paper, the critical gap distribution of pedestrian crossing was studied based on the macro probability balance method, and the critical gap was estimated using the refused and accepted gap data of pedestrian crossing collected at the unsignalized intersections of Chengdu. Then, taking a Chengdu typical case as an example, the mean, variance and distribution of the critical gap could be gotten with the data collected at a unsignalized intersection. Finally, the suggestions improving the intersection and road were put forward by site observation and data analysis.
