Compared with Burke , Johnston was only a “little guy” both in British politics and scholars , but in mod-ern China he deduced precious British conservatism .Taking modern China as historical background , Johnston in-herited , in the ideological nature , the great tradition of British conservatism that was pioneered by Burke , which is mainly reflected in the view of tradition , transformation, religion and the attitude toward colonies .His objection and thinking toward rationalism and radical revolution are the value of his theory and worth the attention of researchers on Johnston ’ thought .
