As the most often translated Chinese classic in the western society, Tao Te Ching has made significant influence on both the Chinese and western culture. Various translated versions have been created by talented scholars with different social and cultural background. It is no doubt that the translation process is of great importance for transmitting Chinese Taoism into the whole world. The study is intended to describe the translation history of Tao Te Ching and explore its cultural effects. It is hoped that the translation studies of Tao Te Ching can be applied to study the translation of other Chinese classics so as to make our Chinese culture widely transmitted in the world.
