Herder's Concept of Translation and Its Philosophical Foundation

Through the analysis of Herder＇s concept of translation and its theoretical basis, this paper argues that Herder＇s translation thought embraces the concept of foreignzing translation. In Herder＇s era it had a pioneering significance, antici- pating that translation would become the means of language and cultural expansion. In addition, his translation thinking en- dowed with his philosophy of language and philosophy of interpretation becomes more rational and dialectical.
