GAO Lian＇ s ＂The Story of a Jade Hairpin＂ was popular at late Ming period. Some related stories are edited into operas and performed. This story came from the history novel ＂Lady Ministers＂, opera ＂ZHANG Yudong in Female Taoist Temple＂ and novel ＂ Story of ZHANG Yudong＂. ZHANG＇ s social position was declining in the texts above and so were his characteristics. Finally,his image became stable in ＂The Story of a Jade Hairpin＂.
