Markedness is a very important term of structural linguistics,which is of great operational significance at various levels. The markedness at semantic level is realized with lexi- cal items,where the antonyms are the most typical. The semantic markedness of English is inter- preted with semantic marker theory to reveal the nature of antonyms.
