Analysis of the Name Misinterpretation in the Russian Translation Version of A Dream of Red Mansions

俄罗斯著名汉学家帕纳休克于1958年将《红楼梦》翻译成为俄文,这是《红楼梦》首次在欧洲出版的外译本。帕纳休克在这部鸿篇巨著中,对多达950个人名的翻译采用了不同的翻译方法,有些翻译精彩之极,但同时对人名也有误读、误译的地方。其中的精彩之处值得赏析,误读、误译之处值得借鉴。

In 1958 the novel, A Dream in Red Mansions, was translated into Russian by a famous sinologist Panasyk. It was the first version of this work that had ever been published in Europe. Panasyk adopted various methods for translating the names of the 950 fictional characters in the masterwork. The majority of Panasyk＇s translation of names was marvelous. However, it should also be noted that his translations contain a few misinterpretations which merit further attention.
