Bai Liusu, a lady from Shanghai narrated in the novel, lived in a traditional and old fashioned house. The alienation of family relationship, misery of being betrayed in marriage and illusion of love helped to open up new opportunities for her. In desperation, she gambled with her future and began the game of fate. In her life journey which was full of ups and downs, she fought against the fate, but, at the same time she made compromises cautious ly, killing her lifetime persistently and unyieldingly.
