Traditional Farmers and Environmental Reason ──Exemplified with the Relationship Between the Traditional Farme rs on the Loess Plateau and the Environment

明清时期黄土高原不同地区的传统农民具有相类似的经济理性，但在环境理性方面存在着较大的差异。这一现象具有深刻的制度性根源。通过产权和乡村社会组织的制度创新，传统农民有可能避免环境资源利用的无效率。

During the reign of the Ming Dynasty, the tradition al farmers in the different regions of the Loess Plateau were similar in economi c reason but considerably different in environmental reason. The above-mentione d phenomenon was deeply rooted in the system itself. Now there is some possibilit y for these traditional farmers to avoid inefficient use of environmental resour ces by means of the innovations in the property right system and the rural socia l organizational system.
