The Bell Jar is the only biographical novel written by Confessional poetess Sylvia Plath .This thesis interprets the unfortunate experiences of three main characters through the concepts of existen-tialism and reveals the reasons for the universal sense of loneliness and nothingness in modern society through examining alienation of being -for-itself in the world of being -in-itself .
