The Japan - EU EPA/FTA negotiation officially launched on March 2013 is an integral part of the new trans - regionalism. The main focuses of interests of Japan and EU are tariff and non - tariff barriers respectively, but the regulatory reform and regulatory harmonization are the shared goal and common interests of both sides. There is a crucial strategic interaction between the Japan - EU EPA/FI'A and the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP) and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreements (TTIP), which demonstrates the characteristics of the new transregionalism of “ domino effect” and “ deeper integration”. The development of Japan - EU EPA/FTA is hereafter closely related to the agenda - setting and rule - making of a new generation of international trade and business.
