The Portrait of a Lady is a masterpiece of Henry James, which has received great attention and praise, And Isabel has been considered as one of the most charming heroines and adored by lots of readers. This work successfully explores Isabel＇s gradual maturity both physically and mentally, and discusses how women strive for freedom in Victorian times in a broader sense. Isabel＇s eventual growth is the way James has chosen to express his great expectation for the growing-up of women.
