摘要
为了探讨当前分布式多媒体研究领域中的两个重要课题 ,即异构计算环境下的实时多媒体通信以及 ATM(异步传输模式 )网络上能提供服务质量保证的高性能宽带多媒体应用 ,设计并实现了异构计算环境下基于 Native-ATM(纯 ATM)方式的实时多媒体通信系统。该系统在SU N工作站上实现了一组 Socket风格的 Native- ATM API(应用编程接口 ) ,并在 PC与 SU N工作站之间实现了基于ATM AAL5协议的实时多媒体数据流的互通 。
Real time multimedia communication in heterogeneous computing environments and high performance broad band multimedia applications which exploit the QoS features of ATM networks are two important issues in the field of distributed multimedia. This paper discusses the design and implementation of a Native ATM based real time multimedia communication systems in heterogeneous computing environments. In this system, a socket style Native ATM API is implemented in SUN workstations. PCs and the SUN workstations transfer real time video and audio streams based on the ATM AAL5 protocol. The experience provides a good foundation for research work on broad band distributed multimedia applications in heterogeneous computing environments.
