Environment hormones, which are harmful to aquatic products, have attracted enough attention because of its ecotoxicity, bioaccumulative and undegradation. Nonyipenol (NP) is the degradation product of nonylphenol ethoxylates(NPE). It is a non-ionic surfactant and closely related with people's daily life, however, it produces hazard for aquatic life and human health. This paper reviews the physicochemical properties and pollution pathways of nonylphenol, the distribution in aqueous environment, the effect on the physiological ecology of aquatic products, and the potential threat to human health through the aquatic bioaccumulation and transmission effects. The article can be used as a reference for early-warning system for aquatic safety risk, and it can provide basis evidences for human health risk assessment by nonylphenol.
