1920年代末天津美国侨民团体编辑出版的《1927年天津美侨联合会人名地址录暨美国侨民通讯录》和《1928年天津美国商业与社会指南》是较少利用的英文资料,据此可以初步复原1920年代前后天津美侨社会的人口规模、职业构成及空间分布情况,并通过对天津美侨联合会、美国商会、美国学堂及美国大学同学会等侨民社团或公共服务机构的考察,大致可以勾勒出美国侨民共同体的内外功能、组织结构及群体互动模式。

At the end of 1920s, the former American Association of Tientsin edited two documents m English whlch are rarely used so far： One is American Association Directory and Address List of All American Citizens Resident in Tientsin 1927 and the other is American Business and Social Directory of Tientsin China 1928. Those two records unfolding a detailed picture of the American expatriate community in Tientsin during the 1920s, including the population size, occupation structure, spatial distribution and their major social organizations. Further study of the organizations, such as the Tientsin American Association, American Chamber of Commerce, American School and American University Club, reveals to a certain extent the inner and outer functions, structures and interaction patterns of the American group, which may be of some help to the study of foreign communities in modern Tientsin＇s foreign concessions.
