Review of Research on the Imbalanced Sex Ratio at Birth in China

中国的出生性别比偏高问题是国内外都很关注的一个重要社会问题,国内外学术界从引起出生性别比偏高的直接原因、根本原因,可能带来的经济社会后果以及治理措施、政策建议等方面进行了大量研究,也取得了较丰硕的成果。但运用西方经济学理论研究出生性别比偏高问题的文献,以及研究出生性别比变动趋势的文献比较少,未来引入经济学定量模型将成为出生性别比偏高问题的重要研究手段。

The escalating imbalance in sex ratio at birth in China is an important social problem that has drawn attention at home and abroad in recent years. This paper reviews abundant and fruitful research in the world in recent years with respect to the causes of rising imbalance in sex ratio at birth, its socio-economic consequences, and solutions and policy recommendations to address this issue. How- ever, there is a lack of research using western economics and on the pattern of changes in sex ratio at birth. The paper indicates that e- conometrics can be an important means in future research of the issue.
