Objective To observe the change of leukotriene B4 (LTB4) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in serum of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and explore their role in pathogenesis. Methods Fasting venous blood samples were collected from acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) patients, stable COPD (SCOPD) patients and healthy people. The samples were centrifuged to obtain serum. Avidinbiotincomplex-EL[SA (ABC-ELISA) method was used to detect serum LTB4 levels and nephelometry Was used to detect serum CRP levels. Results The serum LTB4 level of patients with AECOPD and SCOPD were ( 143.84 ±20.21 ) ng/L and (43.82 ±10.45) ng/L, were significantly higher than that of control (13.33 ±1. 71 )ng/L(P 〈 0.01 );The serum CRP levels of patients with AECOPD and SCOPD (43.77 ±7.48)mg/L and (11.10 ±1.34)mg/L, were significantly higher than that of control (4.92 ±1.43)mg/L(P〈0.01). Conclusion The LTB4 and CRP levels in serum of patients with AECOPD were significantly higher than those of SCOPD patients, and the LTB4 and CRP levels of SCOPD patients were higher than those of healthy subjects. LTB4 and CRP were involved in the inflammatory response to COPD, which can be used as auxiliary indicators to judge the severity of disease and evaluate the prognosis.
