霍译《红楼梦》中附加疑问句研究

Tag Questions in Hawkes' Translation of Hong Lou Meng

附加疑问句是英语中常见的疑问句型,表达着各种语用功能。本文以霍译《红楼梦》前80回的186个附加疑问句为研究对象,发现霍译附加疑问句绝大部分是从原文的非附加疑问句转化而来,占总量的91.4%,要求证实的附加疑问句最多,占总量的24.7%,表其它功能的大部分也含有证实的倾向。霍译附加疑问句的运用大都切合具体语境,使人物话语更加委婉,行文风格更加活泼,一定程度上增强了译文的灵性及其作为独立文本的价值。

The tag question, as one kind of English interrogatives, performs many pragmatic functions. This paper explores the tag questions in Hawkes＇ translation of Hong Lou Meng and it is found that among the 186 tag questions, 91.4% of them are transformed from non-tag questions in the original text, and most of them have the tendency of seeking confirmation. The use of tag questions should fit in with specific context and Hawkes＇ translation proves this principle, enhancing, to a certain degree, the flexibility of his translation and its value as an independent text.
