Rae Armantrout, winner of the 2010Pulitzer Prize for Poetry,is a prominent representative of the West Coast Language Poets. She regards poetry as a way of thinking and records constantly her close observations and quizzical reflections on American society and the essence of existence.Adept at collaging, she juxtaposes seemingly incompatible or even conflicting snippets of'found language'that come from varied contexts, manifesting exquisite competence in language reconfiguration and humanistic concern.Concise, elliptical, and often divided by numbers or asterisks into separate sections, her poems reveal the'fissures and gaps'of the mind and the limits of knowledge with unpredictable line breaks, thereby characterizing her poetry with distinct Williams-esque minimalism and a heavy cast of skepticism.
