韩树人教授认为,子嗽因胎气为病,故属内伤所致,常无外感症状,病因有阴虚或胎火或痰热不同;病位在肺;病机以孕后血聚养胎,肺阴不足,阴虚火旺,或胎火上炎,灼伤肺阴,蒸液成痰,肺失润肃,发为咳嗽。治以清肺化痰,养阴止咳,兼以安胎,并强调临证时,要审因论治,辨证施治。
