To Interpret Society from the Perspective of Labor —On Contribution of Alain Touraine

Sociology needs to explore multiple theories and logics for the sake of interpreting society. Alain Touraine originated the sociology of action besides structuralism and functionalism. He studied social movements, not from the concept of movement, but rather from labor, with focus on how labor defines subject, forms historical entity and social movements, thus interpreting society from the perspective of labor. This theo- retical contribution is of profound enlightenment to examining Chinese sociological theories and comprehending the modernization process of Chinese society.
