Toni Morrison＇s novel A Mercy in 2008 clears the routine theme in her works and describes liv- ing conditions of the figures in the dream-colored Eden in order to present the universal tragic living condi- tions of all human beings, that is, the goal of human pursuit is unapproachable, or it is unavailable when pursuing. This thesis attempts to analyze the conditions of the spiritual pursuit of the figures in the novel from the angle of aspiring complex so as to re-consider the spiritual living dilemma of human beings.
