The seemingly simple and ordinary female figure Lena Grove in William Faulkner' s Light in August is in fact mysterious and complex. Many scholars have analyzed her female features from different angles. By employing archetypal criticism and close reading of the novel, this paper redefines the character Lena Grove from the perspective of her being a human rather than being only a woman, explores the multiple identities of Lena Grove, that is, the nobility of God, the mission of Jesus as well as the ideal of the author embodied in her, and reveals her divine humanity and the author' s unshakable belief in human self-improvement and infinite care for human destiny.
