Objective To investigate the relationship between serum testosterone level and hypokalemic myoparalysis in male patients with Graves' hyperthyroidism. Methods Sixty male patients with hyperthyroidism, including 30 patients with thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP) and 30 patients without TPP, were enrolled in the study. Serum testosterone levels and other relevant laboratory parameters were compared between two groups. Results BMI and serum testosterone levels were significantly higher and FT3, FT41evels were significantly lower in TPP group than those in non- TPP group ( all P 〈 0. 05 ). Conclusion High serum testosterone levels may be associated with hypokalemic paralysis in male hyperthyroidism patients. [ Key words] hyperthyroidism; Graves' disease; testosterone; periodic paralysis
