From the 1950s to the 1970s, quite a few translated works like The Golden Cangue translated by Eileen Chang herself and others by such famous writers as Lu Xun and Lao She became less popular than before. The causes were related to the translators" purposes, different ideologies, social changes, as well as transmission channels, political orientation, the cultural psychology of the target audience, and the influence of the state strategies for international publicity. This paper discusses Western countries" cultural demand and consumption attitude towards China, which should have much significance to the enhancement of China's cultural soft power and the improvement of cross-cultural publicity of China's cultural products.
