Further Understanding of Zhang Tianyi's Satirical Novels

张天翼是上世纪三十年代左翼文坛上颇具创作个性的作家。在他的讽刺小说中,农民、小资产阶级、地主乡绅、城镇小市民等品貌各异的社会众生相都得到了细腻充分的描摹。他对笔下人物的行为和心理给予了新的诠释,充分展现了那一代人的动摇与幻灭,并在其作品中努力开拓和实验现实主义的表现技巧,使其小说呈现出独特的讽刺面貌。

Zhang Tianyi was a writer with rather creative personality in the left-wing literary world in the 1930s. In his satirical novels, various characters from peasants, petty bourgeoisie, gentry and landlords, to lower-middle class townsfolk were portrayed exquisitely and completely. He gave a new interpretation to the characters＇ behaviors and psychology in his works, fully revealing the oscillation and disillusion of that generation. Meanwhile, Zhang did his best to explore and experiment the realistic writing skills, making his novels take on distinctive satire styles.
