Collective Memory and Ethnic Identity: An Observation of the Long-drum Dance of the Yao Ethnic Group

长鼓舞是盘瑶支系的主要文化特征之一,蕴藏着有关盘瓠及祖先历史、生产生活的族群集体记忆。各地瑶族不同特色的长鼓舞文化内容是"多元",打鼓跳舞祭祖的共同内容是"一体",长鼓舞起到了增强瑶族族群认同的作用。

The long-drum dance is one of the main characteristics of culture of the Panyao （a branch of the Yao ethnic group）, which contains the collective memory about the Panhu, the history of the ancestors and the production and the life of the Yao ethnic group. The culture content of different long-drum dance of the Yao ethnic group in different places is ＂diversified＂ while the shared content of beating drum, dancing and worshiping the ancestors is ＂integrated＂. Therefore, the long-drum dance strengthens the ethnic identity of the Yao ethnic group.
