Exemplification and Study of the Manchu and Chinese Versions of The Preface to Surangama Sutra Written by Emperor Qianlong

乾隆皇帝及三世章嘉判定《首楞严经》并非伪经。乾隆皇帝选择《首楞严经》作一四体文的译制,有一种承自顺治、康熙、雍正各位此前清朝最高统治者对《首楞严经》关注及对其价值肯定的渊源。在乾隆翻译四体《首楞严经》前存有藏文本《首楞严经》,但散失不全。此外,《御制楞严经序》中所述四体合璧本《首楞严经》由汉文向其他语种转译,应当可信。

Emperor Qianlong and Zhangjia judged that Surangama Sutra is not pseudepigrapha. Qianlong chose Suranga- ma Sutra to be translated into four different languages, due to the extension of Shunzhi, Kangxi and Yongzheng. There has been a Tibetan version of Surangama Sutra before this translation. However, this Tibetan version is incomplete. In addition, it is be- lievable that Surangama Sutra is first translated from Chinese as described in The Preface to Surangama Sutra.
