The Literary and Colloquial Pronunciations of Tai-Gu Dialect

太谷方言文白异读现象丰富且复杂。古全浊平声今塞音、塞擦音的字,文读送气音,白读不送气音;初、崇、昌、船、禅母部分字文读送气塞擦音声母[tsh],白读擦音声母[s]或[f];部分影母字和疑母字文读零声母[],白读鼻音声母[n]或[]。曾、梗两摄文读鼻尾韵,白读是开尾韵;果摄开口一等个别字文读[uo]韵母,白读[i]韵母。白读音与白读音结合较稳固,地名多保留白读音,反映风俗的词语一般读白读音。

The phenomenon of Literary and Colloquial Pronunciations is very important in Jin-Zhong dialect and it＇ s abun- dant and complex in Tai-Gu Dialect. Rules of initial of a Chinese syllable are mainly as follows： all even tone muddy initials which are plosive or affricate, the literary and colloquial pronunciations are respectively aspirated sound and unaspirated sound; some words of Chu, Chong. Chang, Chuan, Shan, the literary and colloquial pronunciations are respectively aspirated affricate sound [tsh ] and fricative sound [ s ] or [ f] ; some words of Ying and Yi, the literary and colloquial pronunciations are respective- ly zero initial and nasal [n] or[η]. Rules of simple or compound vowel of a Chinese syllable are mainly as follows： rhyme of Zeng and Geng, the literary and colloquial pronunciations are respectively nasal rhyme and not nasal rhyme; some individual grade one rhymes of Guo, the literary and colloquial pronunciations are respectively [ uo ] and [ ie ]. The features of literary and colloquial pronunciations of Tai-Gu dialect include colloquial pronunciations combined steadily, places usually use colloquial pro- nunciations; words reflect custom and some other distinctive words normally use colloquial pronunciations.
