跨文化语境中的文学作品翻译——以葛浩文译《狼图腾》为例

Literary Translation in Cross-Cultural Context ——A Case Study of Wolf Totem Translated by Howard Goldblatt

翻译是源语语言文化在译语语境中的再现。异质文化的桥接是翻译成功的关键。本文以汉学家葛浩文《狼图腾》英译本为研究对象,从形象性及审美性的文学翻译语言要求出发,结合文本分析,探寻汉英文学翻译策略。指出文学翻译应在归化和异化原则指导下,综合直译、意译、套译、省译、转译、注释等方法,使译本更好地融入目的语文化语境,造就功能对等的优秀翻译。

Translation is the re-- creation of a source text and its culture in target-- language context. Cross-- cultural adapta- tion is the key to success[ul translation. The article examines the English translation of Wolf Totem by Howard Goldhlatt. It elaborates the aesthetic framework of literary translation and combines it with text analysis, in an effort to reveal Chinese --English translation techniques. It concludes that literary translation should be conducted under the principles o~ domestica- tion and foreignization, and should combine the use of literal translation, liberal translation, loan translation, omission, con- version, and annotation. Proper use of translation methods will make the translated texts fit better in target--language culture, and produce functional equivalent translation.
