Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture on the Governor Vessel in treating cog nitive impairment after stroke. Methods Eighty patients with cognitive impairment after stroke were ran domly divided into observation group (n=40) and control group (n=40). The observation group received acupuncture on the Governor Vessel, while the control group received conventional acupuncture. The treatment outcomes of the two groups were evaluated and compared by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Results After treatment, both groups showed significant increases inMMSE score and ADL score (P〈0.01). Compared with the control group, the treatment group had a significantly higher increase in ADL score (P〈0. 01) and a nonsignificantly higher increase in MMSE score. Conclusion Acupuncture on the Governor Vessel has good efficacy in the treatment of cognitive impairment after stroke and is superior to conventional acupuncture.
