On the Compilation and Publication of Chinese Dictionaries in Early Europe

自16世纪耶稣会士入华,借助耶稣会的东方传教通信和出版机制,入华耶稣会士成为了"中学西传"的媒介。然而,欧洲学界并不满足于入华耶稣会士对中国语言笼统的介绍,凭借入华耶稣会士传入欧洲的中文文献,欧洲东方学家们通过自己的努力致力于汉语研究,并在欧洲出版发表了他们的研究成果,为日后欧洲汉学史的发展奠定了基础。文章探究欧洲东方学家汉语学习、词典编纂及在欧洲出版的机制。

Based on their correspondence and publication systems,Jesuits in China have become the medium of spreading Chinese learning to the West since the 16th century when they first set their feet in China. However,the European academia was not satisfied with the general introduction of the Chinese language by the Jesuits. And Orientalist in Europe then set out to study the Chinese language based on the Chinese documents brought to Europe by the Jesuits. Their publications laid a foundation for the growth of sinology in Europe. This paper discusses the Orientalists' learning of Chinese,their making of Chinese dictionaries,and the publication mechanism of Europe.
