Recent Christian Religion and the Modernization of the Southern Region of Henan Province

19世纪80年代基督教传入豫南。为了更好地传教,教会开办学校和医院以期吸引教徒。基督教这些教育、医疗机构主观上是为传教服务,但客观上却推动了近代豫南地区新式医疗卫生和教育教学的发展,培养了豫南地区第一批西式医护人员和接受西式教育的学生,促进了该地区教育、医疗和思想的早期现代化。

Christian religion was introduced into the southern region of Henan province in 1880s. In order to preach its religion in a better way,the church established schools and hospitals in the expectation of attracting the new religious followers. Subjectively,the purpose of Christianity's establishing education and medical institutions is to serve the religious preach; yet its objective result is the promotion of development of medicine and health,and education in a new way in the southern region of Henan province. The first batch of medical staff in western style were trained,and the students in schools received western education in this region. Thus it promotes the early modernization of education,medical treatment and thoughts in the southern region of Henan province.
