By means of a careful re-interpretation of some parables presented in Zhuang Tzu,this paper manages to expound the profound purport of the so-called 'speechless assertion' made by Zhuang Tzu to illustrate 'the unspeakable Tao'.It points out that the crucial point to understand Zhuang Tzu's 'speechless assertion' lies in realizing the unspeakable intuition of Tao through one's own spiritual practice, and in doing so,it also carries out a deep reflection upon Zhuang Tzu's doctrine of Tao,which suffers from an inner cleft manifested in its viewpoint of language.
