儒学产生于中国先秦时代,是中国传统文化的精髓。儒学传入日本大约在距今1500年前。儒学传入日本之后,与日本传统文化如神道、佛教以及武士道等相融合,逐渐形成了具有日本特色的儒学。江户时代是日本儒学发展的高峰期。德川家康统一日本之后,幕府大力提倡儒学,从而形成了朱子学派、阳明学派、古义学派等各种不同的派别。儒学在日本的传播与发展,对日本的政治、思想、教育、风俗习惯以及思维方式产生了广泛而深刻的影响,同时加速了日本的文明进程。

Confucianism originated from the Chinese pre-Qin era, it is the essence of Chinese traditional culture. Confucianism was introduced to Japan about 1500 years ago. After Confucianism was introduced to Japan, it integrated with Japanese traditional culture like Shinto, Buddhism and Bushido, it has grad- ually formed a unique Japanese Confucianism. Edo is Japanese Confucianism development peak. After Japan was unified by Leyasu Tokugawa, the Tokugawa Shogunate vigorously advocated Confucianism, which resulted in the formation of various different factions, such as Zhu Xi school, Yangming school, ancient school, and so on. The dissemination and development of Confucianism in Japan have a wide- spread and profound influence on Japanese politics, thought, education, customs and ways of thinking, it also accelerated the evolution of Japanese civilization.
