Conservation of the Ancient Urban Area in Suzhou

苏州古城已有2500多年历史,1982年公布为国家历史文化名城。在＂全面保护古城风貌＂的方针指引下,苏州多方位探索保护古城的道路。当代中国正处在加速城市化进程中,城市文化遗产保护工作面临许多问题。苏州自改革开放以来在文化遗产保护实践中取得的经验和教训,可以为全国其他城市提供一些借鉴。

Suzhou has a history of more than 2 500 years, and was denominated as ＂National Historic and Cultural City＂ by the State Council in 1982. With the principal of ＂keeping all the historical features of the Old City＂, Suzhou ex- plored to keep its own characteristics and protect the cultural heritages in the ancient urban area in all around way. Suzhou＇s experience in the heritage conservation in recent 27 years could give some lessons to the other historic cities in the country.
