This paper tries to interpret The Bund 2-- Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund from four different perspectives. First, it traces the architectural, artistic, social and humanistic values of the original Shanghai Club Building in a chronological sequence. Second, by comparing two Waldorf Hotels in New York and Shanghai respectively, it tries to capture the connections between the two metropolises. Third, it offers an analysis of the spatial axial relations of Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. And lastly,it presents the features of the hotel＇s design with an analysis of the details. The paper attempts at an alternative interpretation of the life of a heritage building as well as the value of its design.
