The "disintegrated individuals" are unique to D. H. Lawrence's novellas. This paper examines the features, causality, and literary values of the disintegrated individuals, and then argues that it is the rupture of modernity that is responsible for the existence of such individuals. In depicting the life of such people, Lawrence is not highlighting the conflict between one's being and nothingness so much as attempting to anchor one's being.
