The relationship between the translator and his/her author has been one of the key intersubjective relationships in translation studies. The translator's identification with the author has been a long prevailing theory both at home and abroad, advocating the translator's "receiving revelation" from the author, the latter's "transmigration" in the former, or the former's "making friends" with the latter, so that the trans- lator can act as the reincarnation of the author and produce a best translation. However, this in-depth study demonstrates the two insoluble fallacies inherent in the theory that debase the translator's subjectivity in the course of promoting it.
