Professor Liu Shichang's Experience in Treating Emergent and Severe Cases

本文介绍刘仕昌教授对“病毒性脑炎”、“原发性肝癌”、“重症糖尿病”等急重病的治疗经验。对“病毒性脑炎”的治疗中,刘老抓住暑湿致病的特点,最易蕴蒸三焦,易酿痰内蒙心窍,后期易耗气伤津,易出现食复,病情缠绵难愈等特点,采用层层分解透泄外邪,步步维护正气津液,配合细心调护,临床治愈不少危重病例。在“原发性肝癌”的治疗中,刘老认为本病多因肝气郁结气滞血瘀。正常气血化为瘀毒,耗伤正气最甚。故治疗宜攻补兼施,疏理气血。故常以疏肝理气方,并重用片仔癀化结散瘀,退黄解毒,辅以西洋参补益津气,扶正祛邪,治疗数例疗效确实。在“重症糖尿病”治疗中,刘老认为本病多与肺、脾、胃、肾有关,但关键在脾。刘老主张通过补牌养胃的方法,往往屡用屡效。

This paper presents Professor Liu Shichang's experience in treating emergent and severe cases such as viral encephalitis, primary carcinoma of liver and severe diabetes, etc. He stresses distinguishing features of different cases and individual treatment should be applied to different cases. In treating viral encephalitis, Prof. Liu mainly applies the principle of letting out superficial evils gradually, supporting healthy qi and body fluids, with careful nursing as the concerted treatment. In the treatment of primary carcinoma of liver, Prof. Liu believes that prescription for dispersing the stagnated liver-qi is best suitable for the case. He uses Pian Zai Huang as the chief remedy to remove blood stasis and promote blood circulation, to remove toxic material and treat jaundice, and uses Radix Panacis Quinquefolii as the supplementary drug to benefit qi and body fluids, support healthy qi to eliminate evils. To treat severe diabetes, Prof. Liu holds that the disease is related to the disorder of lung, spleen, stomach and kidney, but the crux lies in the treatment of spleen, with a principle of invigorating spleen to benefit stomach. Included in the paper are some typical cases of the three diseases.
