Smart Grid provides their customers reliable power supply and services. At present, Smart Grid has attracted various researchers from different fields. This paper presents the conception of Smart Grid and its characteristics, and the key technologies involved are introduced. Basic technologies for Smart Grid mainly contain the issues, namely business management, communication system and advanced control technology. At last, the problems and challenges in the field of Smart Grid are elaborated so that new technique problems needing to be further studied are put forward.
