Origin and Development of “Medialwear”

"中衣"在先秦汉魏六朝,是穿在外衣、内衣之间的套穿礼服,可以看见领口、袖口;隋唐以后演变成长及脚的内裤;明清时期进一步发展成为全民皆穿的长裤,可以贴身穿也可以外穿。因为义项的非理性增加,又以"衣"指"裤",所指对象模糊,不符合语言发展的规律和人们的语言习惯。清代晚期,"中衣"退出历史舞台。

“Medialwear”refers to a kind formal dress between outerwear and underwear from the pre-Qin Period to the Northern and Southern Dynasties.After Sui and Tang Dynasties it became a kind of long underpants reaching to the feet.During Ming and Qing Dynasties,“medialwear”became popular long pants that can be worn as outerwear or underwear.It was late Qing Dynasty that “medialwear”withdrew from the stage of history.
