The Impact of Cultural Schemata on the Discourse Comprehension in College English

语言受文化影响,同时反映出文化的特征。该文从图式理论出发,探讨文化图式的构建对大学英语精读课篇章理解的重要作用,指出外语学习者在学习精读篇章时,应丰富自己的文化图式,以文化背景知识为基石,适应文化交融,更好地理解篇章所传达的信息。

Language is influenced by culture and at the same time in turn reflects characteristics of culture. From the perspective of schema theory, the important role of cultural schema for the discoursecomprehension in the process of the intensive reading is discussed in this paper. It is pointed out that learners should enrich their cultural schemata and take cultural background as the cornerstone to adapt to the merge of different cultures so as to understand the discourse better.
