需卦是以据险而居的所在作为场景,以涉险涉渡和守险守渡为双方,自外而内(指居住场所的由外而内,非指卦爻画的由外而内)来展开对需待之道的阐释。卦辞总说涉险涉渡本身,初、二、三爻讲待涉待渡的问题,四爻讲待守的问题,五爻讲饮食以待作的问题,上爻讲待客的问题,从中体现了一系列相关的生活经验与智慧。

The judgment generally describes the wading through a dangerous water; line 1, line 2, and line 3 talk about waiting to tide over; line 4 relates to waiting and guarding the place; hne 5 speaks of waiting in eating and drinking; the top line discusses how to entertain guests embodying a series of relevant experience of life and wisdom.
