The Dual Missions of Tagore from the Perspective of the Contradictory Historical View

为了捍卫印度文化特质,泰戈尔有时倾向于否定进步的历史循环论;为了接纳普世价值,泰戈尔有时又倾向于承认进步的历史决定论。这一矛盾源于泰戈尔当时置身其中的历史的张力结构,它赋予了承载着双重身份的泰戈尔双重历史使命。普世性民族主义反映了泰戈尔调和这种双重使命的努力。

To safeguard the cultural characteristics of India,Tagore sometimes were inclined to historicism which denied any progress,but sometimes he turned to linear historical view which recognized progress in order to admit universal values. This contradiction stemmed from the historical tension structure which Tagore faced,it endowed the dual missions to Tagore who had a double identity. The universal nationalism reflected Tagore's efforts to reconcile the dual missions.
