This paper explored the role of the media in the development process and limitations in post-war Japanese democracy when mainly on an editorial of The AsashiShimbun. It is the responsibility of media in democratic society “to guide public opinion”and“to supervise the government”.However, in an overview of the trajectory ofpost-warJapanesedemocracy,although we can not deny the news media on the development of democracy played a positiverole, but it shoud be noted that neither politics nor media have trulyreflected public opinion. Citizensneed only be considered as an “audience,” which not onlyexacerbates thedistance betweenpolitics andpublic opinion, but also results in ademocracyin crisis.
