A New Interpretation of "Teaching Benefits Both Teachers and Students"

"教学相长"意即教和学是互相促进、共同提高的。"相"字揭示了教与学、教师与学生在教学实践中的互联、互动关系,而"长"字又解释了师生双方互联、互动的方向。"相"是前提和过程,"长"是目的和结果,没有"相",便无法实现"长";"相"是双方的,而"长"也是共同的。"教学相长"之目的,就是要实现教师教学水平的提高和学生学习质量的提高。要真正实现"教学相长",作为教师而言,必须更新教育观念,创新教学方式,增强教学效果;同时,学生也要转变学习态度和学习方法。"教学相长"之"长",包括长思想、长品格、长学识、长才干、长友谊等。

＂Teaching Benefits Both Teachers and Students＂ means teaching and learning reinforce mutually and improve jointly.The character ＂Xiang＂（mutual） reveals the interconnection and interaction between teaching and learning,teachers and students in teaching practices.The character ＂Zhang＂（grow） explains the direction of interconnection and interaction between teachers and students involved.＂Xiang＂ is the premise and process while ＂Zhang＂ the purpose and results.Without ＂Xiang＂,there is no ＂Zhang＂.＂Xiang＂ is bilateral,and ＂Zhang＂ is mutual.The purpose this teaching method is to improve teachers＇ teaching and students＇ learning.To achieve this goal,teachers must update the concepts of education and bring forth new teaching methods so as to enhance teaching effect.In the meanwhile,students should change learning attitude and method.
