The Present and Trends of Overseas Chinese Communities

本文从数量、分布、组织形态、功能模式以及发展趋势五个方面分析了海外华人社团的最新发展现状和未来走向。文章指出,东南亚仍是海外华人社团最为集中的地区。此外,专业性社团近年来发展迅速,海外社团呈现出开放性、包容性和联合性的组织形态特征。在社团功能方面,商业、政治和文化取向更加明显。最后,文章分析了海外社团未来的三个发展趋势,即规模化、本土化和跨国化。

This paper examines the present and future of Overseas Chinese communities in the perspectives of the quantity, global distribution, organizational form, functional model and its future development. It argues that Southeast Asia is still an area where Overseas Chinese communities are most centralized. Moreover, the number of communities that consist of Overseas Chinese experts and professionals has been growing fast over the recent few years. Openness, flexibility and coalition are three main characteristics in the organizational structure and the com- munities play a more active and important role in the arena of business, politics and culture. In the end, this paper suggests that with the increasing number of members of Overseas Chinese communities, collaboration, localization and transnationalization will continue to be the directions of Overseas Chinese communities development in the fu- ture.
