In this paper the origins of Berkeley Sockets and Windows Sockets are introduced. The conception of the socket address and the principle of communicating with socket are emphasized. The differences between Berkeley Sockets and Windows Sockets are discussed in succession. In the end, the process and steps how to program for Internet with socket are presented and some important func tions are introduced too.
