The Western Literature Viewed from the Angle of Running after Dreams

梦是民族祖先的智慧库。越是早期的梦,越能体现出一个民族的性格。在西方文学的早期阶段,有不少作品描述了梦境,研究这些梦境,能发掘出有益于中国梦的思想资源。重温这些梦境,是诠释西方文学经典的一条新的路径。李伯梦、但丁梦、皮尔斯梦和海涅梦,分别反映了美国、意大利、英国和德国的国民性格,其中均有值得中国学人参考的正面价值。西方各国的梦文学大都具有宗教指向性。圣经是西方各国梦文学的总源头。

The dream is a storehouse in which the ancestors of a nation put their wisdom. The earlier a dream is, the more efficiently it embodies the characteristics of a nation. Quite a few works produced in the early stage of the Western literature might tell us about dream visions. A study of these dream visions is helpful to the realization of the Chinese dream. A review of these dream visions is a new approach to interpreting the masterpieces of the Western literature. Rip＇ s dream, Dante＇ s dream, Piers＇ dream and Heine＇ s dream reflect respectively the national characteristics of USA, Britain, Italy and Germany in that they contain positive values to the Chinese scholars. In the dream literature of the Western countries there is in most cases a religious orientation. The Bible is the general source-head of the dream literature of the Western countries. Some Western scholars have put forth dream-interpreting principles scientifically, which are also referential to the study of the Chinese dream culture.
